How to Find More Photography Clients

Hi friends, welcome back to the podcast! Today we are talking about booking clients as a photographer. If you are not finding clients OR you aren’t booking the kind of clients you want, you have a marketing problem!

Marketing is just a fancy word for communication.

As photographers we communicate in two ways, with our work and with our words. These two areas have to work together for your marketing efforts to take off. If you are spending all of your time focusing on your website and your social media presence, you may be overlooking the work part of your marketing message.

Here are some important things to keep in mind:

Your work

You need a to present a clear and consistent style in everything you do. Your work should be easily recognizable as yours! This is the gold standard of a signature style.

Be predictable! Your clients should be able to trust that their images will look like the images in your portfolio when they book with you.

Your work needs to be easy to find! You need a clear portfolio on your website and on social media.

Your words

The writing you are sharing is just as important as your work! You need to make sure that anywhere you are showing up in your business you are talking directly to your clients. Your marketing copy should be client-centered. Talk about something they care about!

Make sure you are writing in a way that connects emotionally and builds trust with your clients.

Here is how to know if you are having a problem with the “work” part of your marketing strategy

  • Clients send you other people’s work
  • You are attracting price shoppers
  • Your clients are running the session instead of you
  • If you feel nervous every single time you send client’s their gallery

When you fix the portfolio part of your marketing plan, your clients will book you for your style; they’ll be thrilled that you have availability because they love your work!

The way I fixed this problem was mastering artificial light! Once I learned how to use strobes and flash to create natural looking light, I was able to deliver consistent work – even in the winter in Seattle!
